Students will also study the components of healthy relationships, reproductive health, mental health, and personal safety. (Please see course information sheet for additional details)
Important Websites:
Attendance:
Physical Education is a "participatory based" subject area. A student who does not "participate" is therefore limiting the teacher's ability to make a thorough evaluation. To ensure success in the course, students must attend class, actively participate with a positive attitude, AND be fully prepared (proper uniform) daily. Students are also expected to take the initiative to catch up on missed course work when absent from school by consulting a fellow student in the class prior to returning.
Rules and Expectations:
Uniform
A school gym uniform is mandatory for all grade levels, and must be worn every day. P.E. uniforms may be purchased from all physical education teachers at a cost of $15.00 for shorts, $15.00 for shirts, $25.00 for scrubs or two shirts and one pair of shorts for $40.00. It is recommended that students purchase two shirts for hygiene purposes. For outside activities, sweat suits may be worn but, the P.E. shirt must still be worn underneath.
Pool - A bathing suit, towel, and a tie for long hair are required. Note: Two piece bathing suits must be covered with a shirt.
What to do if you forget your uniform?
· Call home and have someone bring it to school before class starts
· Borrow a friend's who does not have gym at the same time as you do
· Wear an appropriate t-shirt and/or shorts that you did not wear to school
· Rent a uniform from your teacher for $0.25 (shorts, t-shirt and shoes available)
Safety:
Shoes - Running shoes with laces must be worn; no participation will be allowed for students in sandals, dress shoes, boots, etc.
Jewelry – Hanging jewelry must NOT be worn during physical education classes. Jewelry which cannot be removed and which presents a safety concern must be taped. Medical alert bracelets are excluded.
Injuries - All injuries that occur during class must be reported to the teacher no matter how minor. *Students must be aware that the use of the gymnasium or weight room without teacher supervision is strictly forbidden. This includes before school, lunch hour and after school.*
Dressing Room and Valuables:
Students are to remember that all rules that apply in the gymnasium/classroom are also in effect in the change room. Respect the rights and dignity of each student.
Do not leave money or valuables in the change room or in your gym bag. They should be left in your locker. It is also recommended that each student bring their gym bag to the gym or other teaching area after changing.
Equipment Policy:
Any student responsible for the breakage of equipment due to negligence or deliberate misuse will be expected to pay the full cost of repairing or replacing the item.
Daily Evaluation of Physical Activity
During activities days, students will receive 5 marks a day based on effort, cooperation, sportsmanship, uniform, safety, ability to follow rules, AND overall participation. Students will lose marks daily for failing to abide by the class rules. Loss of marks are as follows:
